Bandai 1-100 Master Grade Rx-77-2 GunCannon

Mass Destruction!

I gotta say, after only 3 high grade kits, I was absolutely blown away at this guys size!

Bandai's Guncannon at mastergrade is such a great kit, even though it's a bit on the old side!

So, Lets Begin.

Out of the box, you'll find a couple spue sheets, some decals, some rubber parts, and the instructions. As per usual, Bandai provides runners for all of the parts in full and proper color, meaning that paint is just an optional extra. But being the tank modeller I am, I was certainly not about to let this kit go without a proper bruising!

The attentive of you will notice the number 108 plastered all over the model. for this model, I wanted to take a bit of inspiration from the original gundam tv show, and as such chose kai shiden's model, the first guncannon on screen.

Funnily enough, The most weathered and damaged part of the model is near the 108 on the lower right leg, where I pulled out all of the stops on the washes, metallic paints, and scratches.

I think I did the most layering on the feet. Here, I started with a base coating of grey, and then drybrushed white all over to give texture and scratches. I then used a blackwash over the feet, before then applying coats of mud to the feet, starting with a light sand and ending with a dark brown. This was followed with some scratches via aluminum enamels, which sealed the look. I think it worked out well!

I tried a new technique on the rifle as well, and opted to do a bit of heat stressing. This was simply applied via using an undercoat of silver, and then applying a rainbow over the gun barrel. It was an interesting look, and overall I think it adds a nice pop. The parts a bit small though, so it doesn't exactly show up well on camera.

I also found that one of the easiest ways to simulate streaking was to apply the paint to the top of the streak, and then use a tissue to pull the paint down. I used this heavily on the backpack section.

Of course, the statement piece is the massive, 240mm cannons on the shoulders. Even thought the model allows you to build rocket launchers or cannons, I find that the vast majority of builders will probably display it with the cannons, just by default.

Underneath the shoulders, I also did a bit of weathering near the vents. I think they look very nice, even without any dusty coats.

The Model makes a nice display piece, but the early 2000s joints limit mobility severely. The Core fighter system in the chest limits the waist rotation, and the legs are hampered heavily by the skirt.

All in all, its a great model. Bandai really made a great kit for a great price! Even though it might be a bit hard to find locally due to the current shipping tariffs, amazon has it for 37, and the hobby lobby I picked mine up from hobby lobby at $23. It's definitely a great buy, especially if you want a classic Mobile Suit to display!
